Hypocholesterolemia or the presence of abnormally low levels of cholesterol in the blood is the focus of the latest blog from The Patient Experience.

High cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia) has been linked with various cardiovascular disorders but the opposite problem of very low cholesterol can also prove a medical problem.

That being said the current consensus is that low cholesterol is caused by separate underlying medical conditions.  These can include various leukaemia, Marfan syndrome, overactive thyroid glands, Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome, adrenal insufficiency and liver disease. Click here for more
