Midwife and fertility expert Zita West discusses the ‘2-week wait’

No-one likes to wait, especially when it’s for such a life-changing answer. Fertility expert, Zita West, says, “the 2-week wait, the time between ovulation and the time to test, is a time of great uncertainty for many women while they are waiting to test.”

On January 6th the UK’s Daily Telegraph newspaper ran an article which suggested that poor diet during pregnancy should elevate the risk of Type 2 diabetes developing in the child in later years.

The gist of the research, in lay terms, is that a bad diet during pregnancy could mean that the child is more likely to build up fats in the wrong places such as the liver.  This in turn can lead to Type 2 diabetes and other age related conditions. Click here for more

IVF is, of course, the process whereby the male egg is fertilised by sperm outside the body. In the UK it is the major infertility treatment where other assisted reproductive technology has failed.

The UK Government plans to abolish the current regulatory body The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority. This may well mean radical changes in the way such services are provided. This may prove important as this procedure is treated with caution by a number of groups, for example, Roman Catholics. Click here for more
