Welcome to the Vitiligo blog from The Patient Experience.  In today’s blog we are interested in exploring treatments for Vitiligo.  There have been a number of famous people with Vitiligo most notably Michael Jackson and Amitabh Bachchan.

Vitiligo is defined as sections of a patient’s skin losing pigmentation. It occurs when melanocytes, the cells which are responsible for skin pigmentation, either die or for some reason cannot function.

While the causes of Vitiligo are not yet know many scientists believe that it could be an autoimmune condition.  Other examples of autoimmune conditions would include Rheumatoid Arthritis, Sjögren’s syndrome or scleroderma.  Others think it could be stress relation or even a viral infection.
