In the UK according to the National Health Service there are currently 10,000 people on the waiting list for a transplant operation.  They estimate that 1,000 are currently dying because of lack of an organ donor!  Sadly the situation seems the same in other countries.

The purpose of this discussion blog is to find out not what the governments in their wisdom suggest but rather find out what you the public feel should be the best way of increasing the number of organ donors.

Lots of suggestions have been made in the past, such as opt out rather than opt in donor programmes as well as expensive medical education and advertising schemes. Click here for more

Normally considered an age related surgical treatment many people who undergo knee or hip replacements suffered from advanced osteoarthritis or other arthritic pain. Other reasons for having the surgery can include bone trauma, meniscus tears, cartilage defects, and ligament tears. However it is occasionally performed on younger people especially for bone trauma.

This kind of surgery can be a worry for older people so we felt that this was a great opportunity for our members to share their experience s with other people! Click here for more

Jenny writes “In 2008 my husband Tom very nearly lost his life whilst donating a kidney to his father. He subsequently spent over a year struggling on haemodialysis treatment which kept him alive. His very brave sister Anni, then donated a kidney to him and he will be a kidney patient for the rest of his life.

Unfortunately Tom’s donated kidney won’t last forever and I am raising money for Kidney Research UK that can fund vital research into kidney disease and transplantation that will help all kidney patients to lead a better quality of life.”
