Breast Cancer Diagnosis Blog

Tell your story in our new research blog

Being diagnosed with any serious conditions is always a stressful and difficult time.  This is especially the case with any kind of cancer.
To explore the issues The Patients Voice has launched a new video blog to initiate a research discussion about the process of being diagnosed with cancer.

One of the members of The Patients Voice who was diagnosed with oestrogen resistant breast cancer five years ago, has made a video outlining her experiences being diagnosed.  She talks about her diagnostic tests, CT scans, needle aspirate and her relations with her oncologists and other specialists.  Marie talks us through the shock and worry of the diagnosis with cancer and tells us how it has changed her life.

To see Marie speak on her diagnosis please click on the video below.

Marie raises a lot of really interesting point in her vblog and we would really like to know your views on the following questions

What were the first symptoms of cancer which you noticed?  How long and what steps did you take to get a diagnosis?
  • Marie talks about the choice between radiotherapy and chemotherapy.  Were you given any choices in your treatment?
  • How did you first feel when you received your diagnosis and what was your personal support network like?
  • How were you treated by the healthcare professionals assisting you?  In particular oncologists and other specialists.
  • If you could give advice to other people who have been diagnosed with any kind of cancer what would it be?
Obviously these are just suggestions so please bring up anything you think other readers of the blog will find of interest.  Please do include links to any site you have found helpful.

Remember, a blog is really like having a conversation with lots of people at the same time and so please check back on the blog to see what others have said so that if you would like to add to their thoughts you can.

To take part, all you need to do is scroll down to the comments area, type in a nickname of your choice and then put your comments into the box. We look forward to reading your comments and, of course, thank you very much for your input!
