Obstructive Sleep Apnea Blog
Welcome to a blog run by The Patients Voice which is to find out the opinions of patients who use CPAP machine to treat their Sleep Apnea.
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machines were originally developed for the treatment of sleep apnea but are now used in many intensive care units for patient ventilation. Obstructive Sleep Apnea takes place when the upper airway narrows during sleep. This lowers the oxygen level in the patient’s blood stream and makes them wake up.
A CPAP machine stops this obstruction by delivering a flow of air under pressure via a nasal pillow, nose mask or full-face mask. Not just does this prevent the patient waking it also helps with the snoring which is also a symptom of Sleep Apnea.
The Patients Voice is very keen to hear your Sleep Apnea story through this research blog
In particular we are interested in the following questions:-
- How long have you been suffering from Sleep Apnea and when was it diagnosed?
- How long have you been using a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine? Which type of machine do you use?
- Do you have any issues travelling with your machine? What are the general effects on your lifestyle?
- What advice would you give to somebody who has just started to use a CPAP machine? Has using the machine had any unexpected benefits?
- Please do feel very free to raise any other points you may think would interest other readers of the blog. If you have any information resources you think would be of value to readers of this blog do feel free to post about them.
Even if you do not use a CPAP machine we would be very interested to know a bit more about the treatments you do use and how effective they are in dealing with you Sleep Apnea.
Remember, a blog is really like having a conversation with lots of people at the same time and so please check back on the blog to see what others have said so that if you would like to add to their thoughts you can.
Thanks
Belinda
