Post Thrombotic Syndrome Blog

Welcome to the latest blog from The Patients Voice which explores the impact of deep vein thrombosis (and any other type of thrombosis) on the lives of patients.

Many people who have had deep vein thrombosis (it can be 60%), go on to suffer from what is called “post thrombotic syndrome”. The symptoms, while occurring in the calf, may vary but can include pain, discomfort, swelling, and rashes. In some more serious cases patient may suffer from leg ulcers.

We are interested in the views of people who have had thrombosis and who may or may not have suffered from post thrombotic syndrome.
In particular we are most interested in the following questions:-

  • What was your original type of thrombosis and what were the causes.
  • What were your first treatments?
  • What do you do now to prevent a re-occurrence of thrombosis? How has it changed your lifestyle?
  • Have you had post thrombotic syndrome? If so what were their symptoms and how do you treat them?
  • How would you rate the advice of the healthcare professionals who supported you?
  • If you could advise a patient who has just suffered from thrombosis what would you tell them?

Obviously we are interested in all aspects your thrombosis story, so please do mention anything you think will be of interest to other readers of this blog. It would also be great if you could suggest other resources which may be of interest.

If you have not participated in a research before the process is very simple. To take part, all you need to do is scroll down to the comments area, type in a nickname of your choice and then put your comments into the box. We look forward to reading your comments and, of course, thank you very much for your input!
