Stroke Blog
According to Wikipedia a stroke is the rapidly developing loss of brain functions due to a disturbance in the blood supply to the brain. This can be due to ischemia (lack of blood supply) caused by thrombosis or embolism or due to a haemorrhage.
As a result, the affected area of the brain is unable to function, leading to inability to move one or more limbs on one side of the body, inability to understand or formulate speech or inability to see one side of the visual field. In the past, stroke was referred to as cerebro-vascular accident or CVA, but the term “stroke” is now preferred.
In particular we are interested in the following questions:-
• When did you have your stroke and what age were you then?
• Is there a history of strokes in your family? Do you suffer from any other conditions?
• What treatments do you use? In particular what is your experience of occupational therapy?
• What other lifestyle impacts have there been? How is your care-giving provided?
• What do you think of the information available to people who have had strokes? How could this be improved? Can you suggest any useful resources to other stroke sufferers?
• If you had any advice for a person who had just had a stroke what you it be?
These questions are only a guide and so please feel free to bring up any other issues that you consider are relevant to you. Thanks very much in advance for your help.
